The University of South Carolina at Columbia has an enrollment of approximately 26,000 students. Columbia is the capital of South Carolina and is the center of a metropolitan area of 500,000 people.

The Darla Moore School of Business is South Carolina's flagship business school. It serves over 2,000 students in its undergraduate programs and over 1,000 degree candidates at the master's and doctoral levels. The Darla Moore School of Business continues to build on a 75 year history of providing quality business education, research, and outreach services. The academic programs of The Darla Moore School of Business and its School of Accounting are accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business. The college's international programs are ranked among the nation's very best.

The School of Accounting is one of seven functional areas within The Darla Moore School of Business. The School of Accounting offers an undergraduate major in accounting, master's degree programs in accounting and taxation, and a concentration within the Ph.D. program in Business Administration. Accounting is the college's largest undergraduate major. The master's degree programs in accounting and taxation continue to take on increased importance as the state moves to a 150-hour requirement to sit for the CPA examination and are expected to show significant growth over the next few years. The accounting concentration within the business administration doctoral program has a strong history.

The School of Accounting's programs are actively supported by the accounting community through the Friend's of the Accounting Department, a private organization which provides external input for the program in addition to scholarship, fellowship, and other financial support.
